Abstract
The article focuses on the influence of the construction of a multi-axial fabric on the surface fabric cover. Using the example of four-axial fabrics, it presents some methods of designing fully covered fabrics with numerous overlaying thread systems. The significance of the shape of the thread cross-section in the process of thickening the structure of a four-axial fabric is emphasised. The concept of the blocking knot is defined as a condition necessary to achieve a stable fabric structure. Some methods of optimising the construction of a four-axial fabric in order to maximise the fabric cover and minimise the number of overlaying threads are presented. The influence of the fabric structure on the uniformity of stress distribution in the fabric is described by means of a graphic interpretation of the stress distribution caused by a central force perpendicular to the surface of the fabric.

Spiderman im Laborkittel - AMSilk aus München träumt vom Milliardengeschäft mit reißfester, aber federleichter Funktionskleidung
Spinnfäden mögen viele Menschen zum Gruseln bringen. Doch technisch gesehen sind sie ein Wunderwerk. Kein anderes Material verbindet so gesuchte, aber widersprüchliche Eigenschaften miteinander. Der Naturstoff ist federleicht und elastisch. Gleichzeitig ist er stärker als jedes Stahlseil in der Größe. Schon seit Jahrzehnten arbeiten Teams aus der ganzen Welt daran, dieses Naturprodukt künstlich herzustellen....
Erst der deutsche Forscher Thomas Scheibel fand eine Lösung, die auch im großen Stil funktioniert. An der Technischen Universität München veränderte er Bakterien gentechnisch so, dass sie Spinnenseide produzieren. AMSilk ist die einzige Firma, die Spinnenseidenproteine für den kommerziellen Bedarf, also kilo- statt grammweise herstellen kann....
Schon im kommenden Jahr soll das erste Produkt mit Spinnenseidenproteinen herauskommen. Den Anfang machen Kosmetika...
Wann die Firma ihr ehrgeiziges Ziel - die Herstellung extrem belastbarer Textilien - erreichen wird, ist noch unklar.
Leimer gerät ins Schwärmen, wenn er von den Möglichkeiten spricht. Seine Spinnenseide könnte künftig Stoffe für extrem reißfeste, aber gleichzeitig dünne und leichte Kleidung etwa für Hochleistungssportler oder Soldaten stellen.
